Senior Mechanical Engineer Nuclear Industry Salary: £50,000 £72,000 + Company Bonus Benefits: Competitive pension, 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays, SWAD days, flexitime Location: Near Chester (Hybrid 2 days WFH, 3 days in-office) Security Clearance: SC level clearance required (or ability to achieve it) Are you an experienced engineer looking to make an impact in a highly specialised area of the nuclear industry? Our client, part of a leading international project and design engineering firm, is offering an exciting opportunity to join their team working on national security-sensitive projects. The Role: This position focuses on the design and development of process and mechanical engineering solutions within the nuclear sector, specifically in infrastructure or process-type projects. You will be responsible for: Developing engineering solutions for process facilities, including nuclear HVAC systems Producing system descriptions, equipment configuration datasheets, and P&IDs Managing suppliers (reviewing designs, attending equipment tests) Supporting site installation, testing, and commissioning Conducting plant optimisation engineering studies Undertaking FEED studies and engineering option development This is not a CAD-based role but requires hands-on involvement in the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. Previous experience in process industries and construction design projects is essential. Candidate Requirements: Security Clearance: SC level is strongly preferred, though candidates who can achieve it will be considered. The clearance process typically takes 6-8 weeks for UK passport holders (dual nationals are not eligible for SC clearance). Background: Proven experience in the process industry, ideally within the nuclear sector or similar highly regulated environments. Skills: Engineering expertise in process, mechanical, and utility systems; technical management of suppliers; engineering studies; and site support. Qualifications: A degree in a relevant engineering discipline is essential.
