Drainage and Infrastructure Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative Working: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to prepare relevant information (drawings and reports) for planning submission.
  • Design and Drawing Production: Production of drawing information and technical specifications to meet the various design stages (planning, tender, construction).
  • Drawings including General Arrangement plans, longitudinal road sections, flood exceedance plans, construction details.
  • Reports and Documentation: Create comprehensive reports such as Site Feasibility Reports, Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Philosophy Reports.
  • Technical Advice: Advise clients and stakeholders on design, planning, and regulatory compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks related to health and safety, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, and recommend measures to mitigate these risks.
  • Project Management: Manage and oversee workload to ensure key information is obtained in a timely manner to enable design work progresses to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Contribute to a busy and professional team by delivering the best and most cost-effective solutions to our clients.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

To excel in this role, you must demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 5 years experienced in similar design consultancy role.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • Actively progressing towards Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) engineer status with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE).
  • Aware of the current drainage requirements and best practices in relation to obtaining planning permission.
  • Awareness and experienced in incorporating sustainable drainage features (SuDS) into current schemes.
  • Experience in preparing technical drawings for drainage adoption (Section 104) and road adoption (Section 38) with knowledge of the differences between the various stakeholders/undertakers.
  • Ability to coordinate projects and communicate effectively with various disciplines (Architects, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Structural Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, and CDM Advisors) to ensure collaborative team working.
  • Fully proficient in Microdrainage (or other industry standard drainage design software such as Infodrainage).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (telephone, MS teams and in-person).
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Word and Excel.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and CIVILS 3D is essential.
  • Willingness to visit sites for meetings, inspections, and surveys as required.
  • Possession of a full UK driving license and the ability to travel when necessary.
