Your new company
This Facilities Management business is undertaking a Digital Transformation impacting their entire IT department and are hiring a number of key roles as part of this process. Central to this is a Solutions Architect position (with a background in Software Development).

You will join at an exciting time for the business having renewed a new key contract for 10 years and with another project launch upcoming. The IT team is 50 strong and the business has over 120 sites so you will have the opportunity to travel and understand each site, though the head office location is North of Salisbury and you would be expected to spend some time here on a weekly basis and you must have a driving license due to the remote location.

Your new role
We are looking for an experienced Solutions Architect that has progressed from a Microsoft .NET background. You will work alongside 1 other SA and report into the Head of Architecture and Engineering and will manage the evolution of the Enterprise Architecture within a secure/MOD style environment. In addition as part of a small team exposure to other architecture domains including Business, Applications, Data, Integration and Infrastructure would be useful.

The role does not have any direct reports, you are more responsible for shaping the strategy of the architecture roadmap and leading on solutions designs, along with key input into technology suggestions and liaising with stakeholders internally. The role will be 70% Technical and 30% Stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills will be heavily assessed.

You will ensure you and others follow architecture governance, guidelines, standards, best-practices and agreed designs/patterns. You will Develop and communicate architectural artefacts that guide development, test and implementation (eg Architecture Impact Assessment, Solution Design Decision).
The team run Agile and you'll be encouraged to reinforce and embed these practices. Also a migration to the cloud is definitely on the roadmap so experience with moving from on-prem to Azure would be useful.

What you'll need to succeed
The IT Stack is mainly Microsoft based so experience here is key. This is supported by several COTS Back Office systems including IBM Maximo, Select HR, ESRI ArcGIS, and Microsoft SharePoint so a broad coverage across these would be great.

We would expect core knowledge of Enterprise Architecture methodologies (ie TOGAF, COBIT) and use of EA tools (eg Sparx EA, Orbus, LeanIX).

Deep understanding of architectural styles (eg 2-Tier, 3-Tier, Microservice Architecture).

Deep understanding of Architectural Patterns and when and where to apply them (eg Saga, API Gateway). Experience of modelling languages like ArchiMate/UML.

Skilled at structured problem solving, and not intimidated by large and complex problems. Able to analyse & break down problems, solving them piece by piece while keeping sight of the overall 'big picture'.

What you'll get in return
These positions come with a generous benefits package includes access to industry leading training/certifications, good pension, free parking and you'll work alongside some highly experienced and talented colleagues to share knowledge (which is actively encouraged). There's also great opportunity to accumulate/stack holiday through their annual leave policy and Christmas shut down period.
