DevOps Consultant/Senior Engineer - MOD DV - Permanent

This is an opportunity to join an organisation at the heart of the UK Secure Sector, as they look to bring in a Senior DevOps Engineer to join their teams.

You will join a fast-paced, agile delivery team; using agile methodology and DevOps techniques to support critical in service, live applications for the MOD. Senior DevOps Engineers take a leading role in the delivery team, from looking after the more complex tasks through to managing relationships with customers and taking accountability for delivering projects to agreed timelines. This will include ensuring the team are comfortable with their tasks and holding a broader oversight for what everyone within their team is responsible for.

You will oversee and play a leading role in the full project life cycle including project concept formalisation; requirements analysis and specification; architecture design; solution implementation and delivery. You will be using your broad experience across a range of technical tools, languages and methodologies to implement high quality solutions and create innovative and effecting solutions.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Play a leading role in supporting in service, live applications
• Managing the secure development, test, deployment, release operate and monitoring of software products
• Design and operate automated CICD pipelines
• Design and operate shared Platform services for Deployment, Operation and Monitoring
• Design and Operate Platform services for containerised products using Kubernetes
• Write and deploy Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Deploy and operate products in public and private cloud environments (AWZ, Azure, On-Prem)
• Support and advise teams as they onboard products to shared platform services
• Ensuring best practice Agile methodologies (including SCRUM & Kanban) are implemented and followed.
• Providing consultancy support to customers, assisting them with technology choices and solutions to complex problems
• Managing relationships with our customers
• Ensuring your knowledge and professional development keeps pace with an everchanging technology landscape
• Providing leadership and support to delivery team members as required

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Knowledge:

• Understands security principles and how to implement various practices so a projects infrastructure are best protected.
• Deploying infrastructure in a MODCloud environment
• Identity providers such as Amazon Cognito and KeyCloak
• Understanding of public key infrastructure (PKI) including CAs and tokens

Experience:

• Mastery of various cloud technologies including AWS or Azure.
• Developing and deploying secure products using appropriate technology and patterns using Docker
• Implementing best practice across the techniques which enable devops - including virtualisation, containerisation, continuous integration, continuous deployment and infrastructure as code.
• Working with a range of technologies including Kubernetes, Terraform & Docker.
• Experience working to an Agile methodology such as Scrum & Kanban.
• Leading the design and development of new solutions or upgraded features.
• Providing support/mentoring to employees at the early stages of their career.
• Experience with testing frameworks and tools.
• Taking accountability for key project deliverables.
• Implementing Agile methodology and best practice into a delivery team.
• Lead when it comes to mentoring, employees within your team, also structuring meetings with your team members so that they know they are supported.

Skills:

• Ability to explain and distribute day-to-day tasks/requirements in a clear and concise manner using employees' strengths where best suited.
• Appreciation for a projects strategic and commercial goals.
• Ability to lead and maintain long-term relationships with high-level stakeholders - both internally and externally.
