Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Infrastructure Requirements Specialist to join our team within a large national defence organisation. This role focuses on designing and defining infrastructure requirements for cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects that support national security and defence objectives. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between AI project teams and infrastructure architects, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Infrastructure Analysis and Design:
2. Collaborate with AI project teams to understand computational, storage, and networking needs.
3. Define infrastructure architecture to support AI development, deployment, and operational environments.
4. Understand dependencies between other initiatives.
5. Requirements Gathering:
6. Derive technical infrastructure requirements for AI projects, including private cloud, edge, and on-premises solutions.
7. Conduct capacity planning to meet project-specific data processing and model training requirements.
8. Assist in the Procurement and Delivery Management processes.
9. Security and Compliance:
10. Ensure that infrastructure designs adhere to national defence security standards and compliance regulations.
11. Identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies for infrastructure vulnerabilities.
12. Stakeholder Engagement:
13. Act as a liaison between AI researchers, software engineers, and infrastructure teams.
14. Communicate requirements effectively to ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
15. Technology Evaluation and Innovation:
16. Evaluate emerging technologies and their feasibility for AI infrastructure enhancement.
17. Recommend hardware and software solutions to optimise AI performance and scalability.
18. Performance Optimisation:
19. Monitor infrastructure performance during AI project life cycles and suggest improvements.
20. Optimise the use of GPUs, TPUs, and other specialised hardware for AI workloads.
21. Documentation and Reporting:
22. Develop detailed technical documentation of requirements, designs, and recommendations.
23. Provide regular updates to leadership on project progress and infrastructure alignment.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

• Education:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Professional certifications in AI computing or infrastructure management are desirable.

Experience:

Minimum 7 years of experience in infrastructure design, with at least 3 years focusing on AI/ML projects.

Demonstrated experience in national security or defence organisations is preferred.

Technical Skills:

Expertise in high-performance computing, distributed systems, and data storage solutions.

Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and their infrastructure needs.

Proficient in relevant security standards such as ISO 27001, NIST, or similar frameworks.

Soft Skills:

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a high-stakes environment.
